Welcome to UABGrid

UABGrid is the campus infrastructure for computation and collaboration in the Grid environment. The Grid is a ground breaking effort at building an integrated collaboration environment: a computer that is always on and always where you are. It's a collection of resources the makes high performance computing and collaboration environments availble to everyone.

UABGrid is currently available to members of the UAB community and we are working on extending it's availability across partner institutions and beyond. We have currently have three computational resources available that let you sample different computation environments. We have a 36 CPU Beowulf cluster, a 10 CPU Condor cluster, and a traditional 2 CPU SMP system.

Register today and find out more about how UABGrid can work for you.

Inter-Institutional Collaboration Environment Demonstrated at Internet2

The inter-institutional collaboration environment being built for the UABgrid that enables simple virtual organization creation and management was demonstrated at the Internet2 Spring 2005 Member Meeting in Arlington, VA.

This collaboration environment leverages Shibboleth to enable VO identity and role attributes to be defined and shared across application and administrative boundaries and enables users to participate using their institutionaly defined identity and credential systems. The applications currently available are: Sympa, a mailing list manager which defines the VO; WebInsta, a document sharing tool; Drupal, a content management system; and phpWiki, a collaborative editor.

SURAgrid Campus-grid Working Group Meeting

SURAgrid recently hosted a planning meeting on building Campus Grids. This was a follow up to the March meeting on AuthX issues. The goal for this white paper is to provide guidance on how to construct campus grids based on the on-going experiences from various campus that participate in SURAgrid. Represented at the meeting were UAB, UVa, UMich, USC, GSU, TACC, and TTU.

UABgrid continues to be a the forefront of campus grid building efforts and is actively learning from similar efforts at other campuses and sharing the results of our own experiences.

This meeting lead to a well attended campus grid BoF at the Spring Internet2 Member Meeting in Alexandria VA last week.

SURAgrid AuthX Working Group Mtg

The AuthX working group for SURAgrid met in Atlanta on March 14th and 15th to work on the framework for a document describing the challenges and solutions that have been addressed for leveraging campus authentication (authN) and authorization (authZ) information across institutional boundaries on the SURAgrid.

UABGrid is one of the founding members of SURAgrid.

Shelly Henderson representing USC took a photo and posted this news item to the USC AuthX website.

UABGrid Demo Presentation On-Line

You can view the current version of our demo presentation on-line here.

UABGrid Demo 1

We completed the first demo of UABGrid yesterday. Over all, I think the presentation went well and we had an excellent discussion of the current features and future possibilities.

We were able to demonstrate working applications and self registration. Our application demo's need to get more flashing lights and our self registration needs to be completed to a single click, but the framework for UABGrid is there.
